5 Industrial Safety Mats for Your Workplace

Industrial safety floor mats enhance workplace safety and optimise productivity. They are categorised according to their physical properties, which correspond to their intended application. Although there are various types of industrial mats, nearly all offer the same benefits. When choosing industrial mats, prioritise your functional needs as much as the quality and value of the mat.

Here are five types of industrial safety mats for industrial workplaces:

1. Anti-Fatigue Mats

Orthopaedic Anti-fatigue mats provide thermal insulation & comfort to workers who are required to stand on cold concrete floors and for prolonged hours. These mats can be used in either wet and dry areas or dry areas only. The mats for wet and dry areas are usually moulded and engineered without any backing to allow moisture to drain through. Many anti-fatigue mats are slip-resistant as they feature rough anti-slip grit surfaces for traction.

2. Grease, Oil and Chemical Resistant Mats

Considering the environment of most industrial workplaces, many safety mats are required to be grease, oil and chemical-resistant. Industrial mats are designed to enhance these properties. For instance, closed cell-blended top cushions, drain through holes and formulas proof to these hazardous substances are essential to enhance the working life.

3. Safety Message Mats

Marketed as logo mats, safety message mats are both functional and aesthetically appealing. Safety messages can be printed onto the mat depending on the area of installation, type of industry and its desired aesthetic effect.

Modern safety message mats display artistic and photogenic graphics that serve to communicate safety messages in a radiant or compelling way. For example, messages that remind workers to wear their personal protective equipment are accompanied with icons of the various safety equipment required in the workplace.

4. Industry-Specific Matting

Although many industrial safety mats share similar features, there are special types that are made for specific industries. These mats protect workers against special workplace risks and hazards. One example is the welding mats and specially designed ESD mats to protect workers from electrostatic discharges (ESD). Electrically conductive mats and static dissipative mats are some examples of ESD industrial matting systems.

5. Floor Protection

In addition to protecting workers, some industrial mats are designed to protect floors from getting chipped, stained or scratched. These mats have special features such as antimicrobial treatment and traction treads. They are made from extremely durable materials that make them suitable for rough production and high traffic environments. Other floor protection mats such as urinal floor mats are used to inhibit bacterial growth and suppress odours.
