Australian anti slip stair nosing safety requirements for conveyor walkways, platforms and inclines? Many, if not most of conveyors, especially those found in mining applications will have a platform, walkway, stairs, incline or slope. These platforms, walkways, stairs and inclines are normally installed at a high level and provides the user maintenance access to the equipment, which can be anything like conveyor drives, pulleys, or other machinery. These platforms and walkways may be mounted from columns, floor or ceilings or a combination of these, depending on the user’s needs.
Normally, where conveyors or other such devices are located at high level, the walkways or platforms will usually be mounted on a platform structure, with a combination of walkways for access. All such walkways and platform should have handrails on all open sides, for worker safety. For safety and access, the distance of the walkways to the side of the conveyor is a minimum of 750mm and can extend to a metre or more.
For platforms and walkways which are horizontal (running parallel to the ground below), many installations use a steel mesh or grid grating, which normally provide adquate anti-slip protection. For these surfaces, when mud and slurry carry over from the ground from users’ boots, slips and falls can still be a problem. This is also especially important for stair edges or nosings.

C-Stud has been specially designed for the mining industry, where ore and overburden can fall onto the access walkways along conveyor belts and lines. Loose dirt, debris and muck on these walkways can cause serious accidents from slips, trips and falls. The AMCO C-Stud helps eliminate this risk, and ensure a firm grip and foot placement when ascending or descending these inclines.
Featuring our specially designed locking system, with built-in nut on the saddle, the C-Stud has the screw, with saddle/nut assembly inserted between the incline/platform grates. The installer then turns the saddle and pulls this up to hold on to the underside of the grate. This is then tightened and “Bob’s your uncle”, installation done.
Available in high vis safety yellow, these anti-slip channels can be spaced according to the requirements of AS1657. Inclines and walkways with steeper grades normally require more channels or cleats for better grip by users.
